Grady's Nurse Residency Program Earns National Honor

Nurses play a vital role in patient care. And Grady has been recognized for the commitment it makes to ensure its nurses are ready to provide world-class medical care from their first day on the job.

Earlier this month, the Grady Nurse Residency Program earned the prestigious Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) designation with distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), its highest level of recognition.

The award honors Grady’s comprehensive approach to onboarding newly licensed registered nurses. Our program includes both classroom-based programs and hands-on professional practice and work experiences designed to assist new graduate nurses in the transition to their first professional roles and becoming leaders at the patient’s bedside.

Grady’s Nurse Residency Program teaches a robust curriculum that extends beyond patient care. Topics include leadership, communication and critical thinking, skills that are vital for serving patients and their families.

“Our clinical education and nursing leadership teams have worked tirelessly to create an environment where nurses can thrive as they transition into their new roles,” said Michelle Wallace, chief nursing officer at Grady. “This accreditation validates our commitment to supporting our nurses and ensuring they have the resources, education and mentorship they need to deliver the highest quality care to our patients.”

One the most important resources are the Grady Nurse Leaders who mentor and guide new graduates in mastering the challenges of changes in the health care delivery system, advances in treatment and technologies, and increasing patient acuity.

If you know a nursing student who would be interested in working at Grady, encourage them to visit the Grady website to learn more. The Nursing Residency Program is held five to six times a year and eligible applicants are encouraged to apply early as positions are limited.
