Thousands of Grady Patients to Benefit from Bank of America Grant

Funding will bolster in-home medical care to patients with limited mobility

The Grady Health Foundation is excited to announce a $50,000 grant from Bank of America to support Grady Health System. Specifically, the donation is dedicated to Grady’s Mobile Integrated Health program, a mobile team of EMT’s and other health professionals who provide in-home medical care to patients with limited mobility.

Each year, the Mobile Integrated Health program serves nearly 5,000 patients who might otherwise call 9-1-1 or visit the emergency room for needs that can be easily treated outside the hospital setting. By providing in-home care, the program reduces the number of hospital readmissions and helps relieve overcrowding in the emergency department.

“Bank of America’s grant makes it possible for Grady to assist more people in the community and provide the medical care and supplies they need to stay healthy and manage their chronic conditions – all in the comfort of their own home,” said Leslie Mashburn, Executive Director, Strategy & Population Health at Grady Health System. “The bank’s generous investment in this program further reinforces our joint commitment to promoting a healthier Atlanta community.”

"Accessible healthcare is key to advancing economic opportunity, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of this program in Atlanta for years to come," said Al McRae, president, Bank of America Atlanta.

Through its dedicated team and fleet of SUV’s, the Mobile Integrated Health program administers a variety of services to patients managing chronic health conditions. Staff are able to provide patients with medical equipment including scales, blood pressure monitors and pulse oximeters. They’re also able to review hospital discharge instructions with patients and even perform point of care testing and diagnosis – all in the patient’s home.
