GRADY HEALTH FOUNDATION IMPROVING ACCESS TO BREAST CANCER CARE
As October comes to a close, we would like to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when we come together to address the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis on women's lives. For those facing this daunting reality, navigating the path forward can be a complex journey.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among Georgia women, affecting 30 percent of women with cancer. That’s where Grady comes in. It offers breast screenings and treatment using the latest techniques, technology, and research in a modern, patient-focused setting.
Partners like Georgia CORE (Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education) and Susan G. Komen for the Cure provide critical services, including patient navigation and preventive screenings through our mobile mammography unit. This approach offers a convenient option for early cancer detection, reinforcing our commitment to providing equitable, quality care to all.
Georgia CORE helps increase access to resources and research for personalized cancer care and support for patients, survivors, and caregivers. Grady was recently awarded $30,000 for breast cancer and education program thanks to Georgia drivers who purchased breast cancer awareness license plates in the last year.
Through this funding,100 Individual Patient Navigation touch points to breast cancer patients to receive access to care. Lay Navigation is used to guide newly diagnosed breast cancer patients through the diagnosis and treatment process. This program connects patients with navigators who are breast cancer survivors, providing a common ground to receive insight, support, and guidance as they experience their new diagnosis.
Grady Health Foundation believes in the power of compassionate care and is honored to play a role in expanding access to care to everyone who calls Atlanta home.
